A song submission form is open for artists and music fans alike

I’m a firm believer in the half-birthday. People can argue that it isn’t a “real” day or that it takes away from an actual birthday, but I think the occasion is worth noting. Consider all that can happen in six months. That’s about 180 days. Since April, I’ve personally launched Alternative Motive, put out five editions of the newsletter, completed my Bachelor’s program, attended nine concerts, moved cities, and started grad school. Half a year can be busy for anyone and anything. It’s worth commemorating that period of time.

So, for Alternative Motive’s half-birthday, I’m celebrating with an exciting announcement: Alternative Motive is opening a song submission form!

At the end of every newsletter, I feature 10 songs in the Alt New Monthly playlist. These include new releases, fresh new discoveries, and songs I’ve found renewed interest in. Alt New Monthly prioritizes showcasing artists from Canada (where the newsletter is based) and artists who come from underrepresented communities.

As much as I love scouring for songs, I know there is so much music that I’m currently missing out on. That’s why Alternative Motive wants to hear from readers, music fans, and artists alike about what else is out there! Your suggestions have the potential of making it into upcoming playlists.

Submitted songs must be available on Spotify and fit loosely into the category of “alternative.” Special attention will be given to songs that are typically not covered — whether that is because they are brand new or because they are created by artists that are excluded from the mainstream music conversation. A full list of details is available at the top of the form.

Alt New Monthly

September 2023’s Alt New Monthly features the the closing track to Grrrl Gang’s sophomore album, a newly discovered song from Pink Cloud Summer, and Jayden Seeley’s solo debut.
